The Scott Family’s Christmas Tradition
Meet the Scott family, whose love for Reyn Spooner and Hawaiʻi has created a heartwarming holiday tradition that spans generations.
Like many of our collectors, Dick Scott's journey with Reyn Spooner began in the 1970s during a trip to Hawaiʻi that sparked a lifelong connection. A Southern California native with an affinity for the islands, Dick felt an immediate bond with the spirit of Aloha embodied in our shirts. Year after year, his passion grew, and with each visit to Hawaiʻi, his collection expanded — capturing memories and celebrating his love for island culture. When we introduced our Hawaiian Christmas print in the early 1980s, Dick was among the first to embrace it, blending his love for the holidays with his devotion to Hawaiʻi.
Martha Scott was a big fan of all things Christmas and took it upon herself to start the tradition of gifting her two boys, Richard and Gregg, our annual Hawaiian Christmas shirt. Beginning in the late 1980s, she would call our Ala Moana Reyn Spooner store every October to place her order for the family until her recent passing.
Over the years, our Hawaiian Christmas tradition has taken a life of its own in the Scott family. As the family has grown, in-laws adopted the Aloha Christmas spirit, grandkids raided their father’s and grandfather’s closets for vintage Spooners, and kids passed down Aloha shirts to smaller cousins and siblings.
“The tradition has exploded in our family, with all generations enjoying their coordinating shirts — and dresses now, too — when they’re together. Even the babies are getting in on the fun by wearing their matching outfits. We are now in the fourth generation of Reyn Spooner Christmas shirts.”- Kris Kassity (Dick and Martha’s daughter)
We’re honored to be a part of the holiday tradition Dick, Martha, and the entire Scott family have been celebrating for over 40 years.
