Collector’s Closet: Ken H.

Ken was first introduced to Spooners when he was 15 on a family vacation, and he bought his first shirt at the Kahala Hilton. Forty years later, Ken has over 1,000 Spooners – one of the largest and most impressive collections we’ve seen.

Ken H. proudly lives the Aloha lifestyle. He was born and raised in Newport Beach, CA, and he has always been drawn to the easygoing and ocean-faring life of the Islands. His vintage ’49 Woody and his daily Spooner are an extension of that.

Where do you live?
Anaheim Hills, CA

Spooners in collection: 1,000+

“Put it this way, my wife has never seen me not wearing a Spooner.”

Ken estimates he has over 1,000 shirts with full closets at his home in Anaheim Hills and his vacation properties in Canyon Lake and Mazatlán. For Ken, Spooners are the perfect shirts as they’re comfortable, can be worn dressed up or casually, don’t have to be tucked, and are easy to care for.

"They are amazing shirts, and they look good for any occasion"

Ken means any occasion – he is known to wear his Spooner under a suit for weddings and other black-tie events. Ken said if he can't wear a Spooner, then why go?

Ken still owns his first shirt, a Newport Sailor pullover which remains one of his favorite prints, along with our classic Lahaina Sailor and 50th State Flower designs. He also has a soft spot for vintage Eddy Y. prints that feature Woodys as a proud owner of one and a member of the SoCal Woody Club.

Have a great collection of Spooners? We would love to see them. Submit them here for a chance to be featured on an upcoming Collector’s Closet Feature.
